Francis Cornelius Knott, Jr.

Francis Cornelius Knott, Jr., affectionately known to many as “Bub” or “Junior,” a lifelong resident of Drayden, Maryland, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2025, at MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital in Leonardtown, Maryland, at the age of 70.
Junior was born on July 26, 1954, in Leonardtown, Maryland, to the late Francis Cornelius Knott and Catherine Gladys (Higgs) Knott. He spent his life in Southern St. Mary’s County where he worked as a sheet metal mechanic at NESEA - Webster Field, up until he retired in 2019.
He was a beloved brother, uncle, friend, and neighbor who will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Junior is survived by his four sisters: Shelley Dougherty and Kitty Feldman, both of Drayden, MD; Betty Tippett of Ridge, MD; and Barbara Chayka of Lexington Park, MD; as well as by his nieces: Stacey Marshall; Beth (James) Fizer, and Camryn (Tucker) Jameson, his great-nieces: Alexis, Sophia, and Maria, his great-nephew: Zachary, and many other relatives and close friends.
Junior found comfort in the simplicity of life in Drayden—whether surrounded by family and friends, driving around town, or enjoying his time at home. His presence was constant and meaningful in the lives of those around him.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM with prayers recited at 7:00 PM, in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at 11:00 AM in St. George Catholic Church, Valley Lee, MD. Interment will follow at St. George Catholic Church Cemetery, Valley Lee, MD.
Serving as pallbearers will be Tucker Jameson, James Fizer, Peter Marshall, Zachary Marshall, Danny B. Dean II, Danny B. Dean III, Jamie B. Jordan, and Buddy Dean.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Danny B. Dean Sr. and Carl Edwards.
