Francis Eugene "Pop" Buckler

Francis Eugene Buckler, Sr., “Eugene”, 76, of Clements, MD, passed away on April 14, 2024, in Leonardtown, MD. Born on January 26, 1948, he was the son of the late Hazel Elizabeth Buckler and the late Perry Lee Buckler. Eugene was the loving husband of the late Ruby Buckler, who preceded him in death on February 22, 2014. He is survived by his children, Sharon Downs of Hague, VA, Dale Downs of Montross, VA, and Eugene Buckler, Jr. (Shelby) of Clements, MD, his sister, Charlotte Buckler of Clements, MD, eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Eugene was a lifelong St. Mary’s County, MD resident and attended Margaret Brent High School. He served in the United States Army and was a Building Service Manager for the Board of Education for 40 years.
The family will receive friends on Monday, April 29, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with prayers recited at 7:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at 11:00 AM in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Mechanicsville, MD, with Father Michael Tietjen officiating. Interment will follow at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD. Serving as pallbearers will be Dale Downs, Eugene Buckler, Jr., Bobby Thompson, Parker Thompson, Roger Murphy, and Norman Carrick III.
