Frederick William Smith

Frederick William Smith, 77 of Leonardtown, MD, passed away Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at his residence with his daughter by his side. Born June 4, 1937 in Red Bank, NJ, he was the son of the late Bernard W. Smith and Margaret Ryder Smith. Fred was employed for over 28 years with R.J. Reynolds Inc., until his retirement in 1987. During his employment at R.J. Reynolds he was a mechanical engineer in the tobacco division and later as a plant engineer and solvent recovery specialist in the Foods division. He was especially proud of developing a solvent recovery process used in the printing of labels for food containers. After retirement, he enjoyed traveling extensively both in the United States, Canada, Mexico and Europe. When he was home, he enjoyed woodworking and always tried to have a woodworking shop wherever he lived. He loved to make furniture and models of ships, planes and vehicles. He was a World War II buff and an avid follower of college sports. In addition to his parents, Fred was predeceased by his daughter, Ellen Paige Lambeth, and his wives Jean Brown Smith Prag, and Rae Dene Boyles Smith. Fred is survived by his sister, Carol Sexton; daughter, Patricia Furio (Joe), stepdaughters Dawn Bost, Jill Bennett and Samantha Hughes (Matthew); and grandchildren Adrienne Furio, Joe Furio, Rachel Lambeth and Ryan Lambeth.

my heartfelt condolences to the family.fred was a very talented man ;his models of boats were spectacular!!I was very fortunate to have known him &call him friend.. a funny story…Fred knew I liked staemboats& gave me a model that he had made of a Mississippi paddlewheeler& I gave him a pic of me standing on one; !! He would tell everyone that was his young girlfriend suzi!!!!We both cherished his friendship
Fred was a great person. When he met my children, he showed him his wonderful train set that he made. My son especially liked it and he ended up giving it to him. He was an awesome boat builder too. He was a kind considerate person. He will be missed. Prayers to the family. My you rest in peace Fred. Bobby, Jackie, Macie and Zach
