George Francis Butler
August 16, 1950 ~ February 24, 2025
On February 24, 2025, God called home one of his dedicated soldiers, George F. Butler. George was born on August 16, 1950, in Oaksville, MD, to the late Philip L. Butler and the late Sarah Ann White (Hill). Affectionately known by many names, Dinger, Mr. G., Mr. Beasley, Uncle Buck, and George B--- He was a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
He was educated in the St. Mary’s County School System and began his military service on June 6, 1968, honorably serving until June 5, 1974. After his time in the service, George was briefly employed at the Bureau of Printing and Engraving before discovering his true passion--- construction. He dedicated many years to Casta Construction of Bryantown, MD, before transitioning to truck driving, a profession he held until his well-earned retirement.
Beyond his career, George had a love for life’s simple pleasures. He enjoyed watching western movies, listening to jazz music, admiring cars, taking long drives, coloring, and completing crossword puzzles. He was a devoted man of faith, reading his Bible every day without fail.
On June 27, 1970, at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Bryantown, MD, George married the love of his life, Lala M. Thomas. Together, they built a beautiful life and welcomed two daughters, Yolanda Butler Brown and Shawn Butler. In 1983, they expanded their family by raising their third daughter, Katrina Douglas. George had a deep love for his family, especially cherishing the time he spent with his only great-granddaughter, Dacian Spears, and sharing a special bond with his only grandson, George J. Butler.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Philip L. Butler and Sarah Ann White, as well as three brothers: Philip Butler (Louise), Michael Butler (Evangeline), and Thomas Butler. He was also preceded in death by his nephews, Michael Butler Jr. and David Butler.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Lala M. Butler; his three daughters, Yolanda Butler Brown (Craig), Shawn Butler, and Katrina Douglas; his three brothers, James (Darlene), John (Pam), and Larry (Dallas); his sister, Shirley; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends who loved him deeply. George F. Butler will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his love for his family, and the warmth and wisdom he shared with everyone who knew him. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those he touched.
The family will receive friends on Friday, March 14, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, at the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD, where a funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 11:00 AM with Sabana Moore officiating.
