George Gilbert Knight was born to William and Ella mae (Wathen) Knight on February 20, 1941. Somebody gave him the nickname “Gibby”, that stayed with him. Everyone who knew him as the loving husband of the late Theresa (Lathroum) Knight who passed away December 12, 2020. He was proceeded in death by his sisters Doris Knight, Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Farrell and brothers John “Johnnie” Knight and James “Jimmy” Knight and stepson Archie Higgs. He is survived by his brother Joseph “Joe” Knight, Sr.
Mr. knight went to work in 1957, for Pierce and Gibson Masonry, he also worked for Pete-Griffin Masonry, Nick Downs Masonry. He retired from Guy and Guy Masonry. He liked deer and geese hunting; he was a fan of the Baltimore Orioles. He was drafted in the Army during Vietnam era and served state side, made sergeant and was honorable discharge July 6, 1968. Somebody would ask him how he was doing and he would say “I was better, but I got over it.”
The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 18, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM with prayers recited at 7:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 19, 2026, at 10:00 AM in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Morganza, MD with Rev. Drew Royals officiating. Interment to follow in Charles Memorial Gardens, Leonardtown, MD.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Leonardtown Vol. Rescue Squad, Leonardtown, MD and Hospice of St. Mary’s, Leonardtown, MD.

He was one of a kind,always there to help anyone. All I know he was glad to see Aunt Bootie. Our conversation was about her and those that have gone before him. I can only hope they have sea food in haven. George we all will miss you dearly , and you put up a good fight,RIP
