The family will receive Friends on Monday, October 11, 2010 from 6:00-8:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD. Interment will be on October 20, 2010, at 11:00AM in the Sherwood Burial Park, Salem, VA.
Gilbert Moyer Puckett, 89, of Mechanicsville, MD died October 4, 2010 in Leonardtown, MD. Born May 8, 1921 in Copper Hill, VA, he was the son of the late Cleveland Thomas and Lelia King Puckett. Mr. Puckett was the loving husband of the late Ida Elizabeth Puckett whom he married on July 15, 1955 in Clearwater, FL. Mr. Puckett is survived by his daughters; Lisa Miller of Mechanicsville, MD, Brenda Kingery of Salem, VA, Carolyn Bowman of Asheville, NC, and Sandy Williams of Leicester, NC, as well as 9 grandchildren: John Harold Miller, and Elizabeth Hope Wright of Mechanicsville, MD, Tony Oliver of Summerville, SC, Cathy Oliver of Goose Creek, SC, Aaron L. Miller of Hanover, PA, Adam J. Miller of Germany,( U.S. Army) Mitchell Medford of Lenoir, NC, John Williams of Decatur, GA, Susanne Welch of Acworth, GA. He is also survived by 8 great-grandchildren; Mayson Moyer Magill, Todd Oliver, Emily Oliver, Lauren McCarson, Tyler Miller, Breanna Miller, Xena Miller, and Blake Welch as well as a great-great granddaughter Marah Medford. He was also preceded in death by his granddaughter Robin Medford of Asheville, NC, as well as his sister Valeria Moran of Salem, VA. Mr. Puckett graduated from Lewis Gale High School in 1938. Mr. Puckett was a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army for 10 years and retired from the United States Air Force in 1966 after serving 20 years. He then was employed by the Veterans Administration for 14 years. He served in World War II seeing action South Africa, England, Paris, and Italy. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and enjoyed watching football, baseball, and listening to music. The family will receive friends on Monday, October 11, 2010 from 6:00-8:00PM, in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD. Interment will be on October 20, 2010 in the Sherwood Burial Park, Salem, VA at 11:00AM.
