Gregory Joseph Humphrey, 73, of St. Mary’s County, MD, formerly of Warminster, PA, passed away on December 18, 2023 in Callaway, MD. Born on September 26, 1950 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Pontiac, MI, he was the son of the late Shirley Frances Kyd and the late Hugh Francis Humphrey. Greg was the loving husband of the late Janet Lee Humphrey, whom he married on June 22, 1996 in Hellerton, PA, and who preceded him in death on July 10, 2023. He is survived by his son, Joshua R. Humphrey of Glenville, PA, his siblings Patricia Humphrey, Lori Myers, all of Raleigh, NC, Jim Humphrey of Franklin, NC, and Tom Humphrey of Royal Oak, MI, as well as one grandchild. Greg was preceded in death by his brother, Danny Humphrey. Greg graduated from Brother Rice High School in 1968, and went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from the Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science. He served in the United States Navy as an AO- Ordinance Mechanic from April 24, 1969 to December 23, 1970. Greg moved to St. Mary’s County, MD in 1996, where he worked as a Mechanical Engineering Technician for the Department of Defense, Patuxent River, MD for 43 years, retiring in September 2021. Greg was willing to help anyone who needed a hand. He enjoyed reading, spending time with his family, especially his grandson, Miles Humphrey, gardening and helping his wife, Janet, with any DIY project she had, dancing, and mingling with politicians and stars. Greg was a jack of all trades and had a passion for both cooking and baking; he especially loved to grill. He was a car enthusiast too, owning many vehicles, as well as building and restoring them. All services will be private. Arrangements provided by the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home and Cremation Services, P.A., Leonardtown, MD.
