A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 5, 2012 at 11:00AM in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Morganza, MD with Father Keith Woods officiating. Interment will follow in Charles Memorial Gardens, Leonardtown, MD.
Visitation:
The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 4, 2012 from 5:00PM to 8:00PM with prayers recited at 6:30PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD.
Hortense Agnes Jones, 98 of Mechanicsville, MD died October 1, 2012 at St. Mary’s hospital, Leonardtown, MD. Born July 4, 1914 in Leonardtown, MD she was the daughter of the late Etta Lon Wood and Clarence Wood.
Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph P. Jones, Sr. November 2, 1983.
Hortense is survived by her children: Joseph P. (Doris) Jones, Jr. of Jacksonville, FL, James S. (Eileene) Jones of Mechanicsville, MD, John A. (Catherine) Jones of Bentonville, VA, Thomas H. (Barbara) Jones of Avenue, MD, Alfred S. Jones of Mechanicsville, MD, and Agnes Crite of Brunswick, GA, grandchildren; Joe, Rick, Jimmy, Jeff, Tom, Nolan, and Maddie Jones, Dedie Jones Campbell, Cathy Jones Hayden, Lisa Jones Walter, Janet Jones Graves, Sarah Jones Nielsen, Joey Reeves, Billy Burch, Raymond, Kevin, and Dennis Hayes, and Margaret Hayes Pugh. in addition to her parents and husband Hortense was preceded in death by her children: George F. Jones, and Mary Ann Hayes, siblings: Albert Wood, Delmas Wood, Elvie Wood Cusic, and Ethel Wood Turney, grandchildren; Ann Marie Jones, and Amy L. Jones , and great-grandchild, Ashley Jones.
Mrs. Jones was a lifelong resident of St. Mary’s County. Hortense was a homemaker she enjoyed quilting and reading. Interment followed in Charles Memorial Gardens, Leonardtown, MD.
Pallbearers were: Joseph P. Jones, III, Raymond Hayes, Richard B. Jones, Sr., Thomas H. Jones, Jr., James S. Jones, Jr., and Jeffrey S. Jones.
Arrangements were provided by the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, P.A., Leonardtown, MD.
