Iva May Cain, 78, of California, MD, formerly of Golden Beach, MD, passed away on April 20,2023 in Leonardtown, MD. Born on December 19, 1944 in Washington, DC, she was the loving daughter of the late Margaret F. Jennison and Frank W. Jennison. Iva was the loving wife of Fred A. Cain, whom she married on February 2, 1963 in Washington Church of the Brethren in Washington, DC. Iva is survived by her children Julie Marie Johnson (Danny) of Mechanicsville, MD, Brian Carl Cain of Charlotte Hall, MD, William Alfred Cain (Candy) of Hollywood, MD, her siblings Jim Jennison of Martinsburg, WV, Madeline Spence of Sunrise, FL, Eleanor Toth of Bowie, MD, Bill Jennison of Palatka, FL, and Sue Binsted of California, MD, as well as seven grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son Jeffrey David Cain, and her siblings Fay Petris and Karen Taylor. Iva graduated from Oxon Hill High School in 1963. She moved from Oxon Hill, MD to St. Mary’s County, MD in December of 1973. Iva was a clerk for the St. Mary’s County State’s Attorney’s Office for 20 years, retiring in January 2008. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD, where a funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at 10:00 AM in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Matthew Tate officiating. Interment will follow at Charles Memorial Gardens, Leonardtown, MD. Serving as pallbearers will be Danny Johnson, Kevin Johnson, Alan Johnson, Jeff Cain, Brenden Cain, and Tim Bolton. In Lieu of Flowers donations may be made to Hospice of St. Mary’s P.O. Box 625 Leonardtown, MD 20650, St. Jude’s Research Hospital 501 St. Jude’s Place Memphis, TN 38105, and Shriners Childrens Hospital 3551 N. Broad Street Philadelphia, PA 19140.
