A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, September 25, 2014 at 10:00AM in Holy Face Catholic Church with Father Jerry Gamrot officating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation:
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. with prayers recited at 7:00 P.M. in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD.
James (Jimmie) Benjamin Clarke, 93, of Park Hall, MD passed away on September 20, 2014 in Leonardtown, MD. Born on September 24, 1920, he was the son of the late Mary Olive Cullison and James Clarence Clarke. Jimmie was the loving husband of the late Bertha Cecelia Thompson Clarke, whom he married at St. Martins in Baltimore, MD on September 7, 1946. Jimmie is survived by his children; Dennis Clarke of Park Hall, MD, Cecelia Warn of Ridge, MD Mary (Dean) Johnson of Lusby, MD, 11 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren, he is also survived by his siblings Donald Clarke, Calvin Clarke and Glenwood Clarke. He was preceded in death by his son James “Jamie” Clarke, Jr.and grandson Kevin M. Clarke, siblings Evelyn Corso, Richard Clarke, Wilhelmina Ford, Loretta Morgan, Maurice Clarke, and Benedict Clarke. Jimmie graduated from St. Michaels Catholic School in 1939, and joined the United State Army serving 2 years, including World War II. He was a mechanic for Public Works. Jimmie was a member of the Knights of Columbus, VFW, and American Legion. Jimmie was a fun loving man and hard working man dedicated to his family and friends. He loved to dance and tease. He retired from A.I.M.D. as an inspector after 20 years of Civil Service. He was a man who always worked at least two jobs to support his family among them being a taxi cab driver and a school bus driver. He also worked at home in his part-time Hobby Shop working on electrical systems for cars. Jimmie always had a twinkle in his eye and a smile on his face that will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
