A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, August 22, 2014 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Dan Moore officiating in the Maryland Veterans Cemetery Cheltenham, MD.

The family will receive friends on Friday, August 22, 2014 from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home Chapel Leonardtown, MD.
James “Jimmy, Jimbo” Benson Allen, 87, of Mechanicsville, MD passed away surrounded by his loving family on August 12, 2014 in Callaway, MD. Born on April 8, 1927, he was the loving son of the late Bethel Allen and Luther Allen. Jimmy was the loving husband of the late Louise Allen who preceded him in death on September 11, 2007. Jimmy is survived by his children: Luther Allen of Baltimore, MD, Beth Allen of Mechanicsville, MD, 1 grandchild, 1 great grandchild, and his sister Virginia Lee of Mt. Vernon, IL. He was preceded in death by his son Richard Allen, siblings; Henry Allen, Alice Austin, Louis Allen, and Lela Allen.
Jimmy served in the United States Navy in from September 17, 1943 to May 9, 1946, in USNTS Great Lakes, IL, Landing Craft School (PAC), and NATTC Memphis, TN. Serving on the USS President Hayes, USS MC Caffery (DD360), and USS Minas (ABL 14). While in the Navy he earned the American Area Ribbon, Victory Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with three stars, and Philippine E. Liberation Ribbon one star. Jimmy enjoyed woodworking.
