A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, June 14, 2006 at 10:00 AM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home Chapel with Fr. John Dakes officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bryantown, MD.
Visitation:
Viewing/Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 13, 2006 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, where Prayers will be said at 7:00 PM.
James Calvin "J.C." Gatton, 76, of Leonardtown, MD formerly of Charlotte Hall died June 9, 2006 in Washington Hospital Center. Born March 11, 1930 in Avenue, MD he was the son of the late Philip D. Dominick and Frances Louise Sweeney Gatton. Calvin is survived by his wife of 53 years Bettie Ann Carrico Gatton whom he married on February 15, 1953 in St. Francis Church, Benedict, MD. He is also survived by his daughters: Patricia Ann Crelly and her husband Tom of Eureka, MT, Maria Louise Jordan and her husband John and Janet Lynn Scully and her husband Carl all of Leonardtown, MD. He was blessed with six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Surviving brothers and sisters are: Doris Bussler, Everett Gatton and Alfred Gatton all of Leonardtown, MD, Frances Morehead and Ellen Hill both of Sarasota-Bradenton, FL and Ralph Gatton of Gambrills, MD. Calvin worked as an insurance agent for Prudential Insurance Company. He also served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was an active member of the Mechanicsville Moose Lodge #495 where he obtained the highest degree of Pilgrim and he served as governor, administrator and other offices. Calvin enjoyed lots of sports such as fishing, crabbing, hunting and also a good game of pitch with family or friends. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 13, 2006 from 5:00 â?? 8:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, where Prayers will be said at 7:00 PM. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Tommy Tippett, Bob Adams, Victor Estep, Frank Burch, Charles Wilkerson and Bud Humbert. Contributions may be made to Washington Hospital Heart Center, C/O Washington Hospital Center Foundation, East Building 1001, 110 East Irving Street NW, Washington, DC 20010.
