Services: A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at 10:00 AM in the La Plata United Methodist Church, La Plata, MD with Pastor Bruce Jones officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation: The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD with prayers being said at 7:00 PM. James “Jimmy” D. Rollins 81, of Charlotte Hall, MD, died September 7, 2011, at Washington Hospital Center in Washington DC. Born on October 18, 1929 in Washington DC he was the son of the late James Carroll and Dorsey Belle Ward Rollins. Mr. Rollins is survived by his loving wife Norma Graves Rollins whom he married in Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Laurel Grove, MD on August 29, 1953. Jimmy is survived by his children; Randy Rollins (April) of Mechanicsville, MD, Sharon Abell (John) of Clements, MD, and Glenn Rollins (Marty) of Bel Alton, MD. Jimmy is also survived by two brothers Cecil D. Rollins of Charlotte Hall, MD, and Carroll W. Rollins of Walla Walla, WA., 6 grandchildren, and 2 great-grand children. He was preceded in death by his sister Mary Ann Lyon. Jimmy graduated from LaPlata High School and served in the United States Army from November 4, 1954 until he was honorably discharged on November 3, 1956. Jimmy worked as a Service Department Manager for Sinclair Oil and Burch Oil. Jimmy was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, he treasured time spent with family. His pride and joy were his grandchildren and great grand children, he enjoyed gardening, golfing, fishing, and feeding the birds. Jimmy was a member of LaPlata United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir for many years. The Family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 from 5:00 PM- 8:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD with prayers recited at 7:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at 10:00 AM in the LaPlata United Methodist Church in LaPlata, MD with Rev. Bruce Jones officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be; David Rollins, Clarke Rollins, Brian Rollins, John Arcadipane, Rayner Blair, and Larry Graves.
