A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Monday, April 4, 2005 in Holy Angels Catholic Church, Avenue, MD. Interment will follow in Charles Memorial Gardens, Leonardtown, MD.
Visitation:
Public visitation will be held in the funeral home on Sunday, April 3, 2005 from 2 - 5 PM with prayers being said at 3:00 PM.
James Francis "Jimmie" Lawrence, 68, of Coltons Point, MD died April 1, 2005 in Leonardtown, MD. Born September 14, 1936 in Leonardtown, MD he was the son of Mary Elizabeth Bailey Lawrence and the late Francis DeSales Lawrence. He was the loving husband of Mary Loretta Hill Lawrence whom he married on November 30, 1957 in Our Lady of the Wayside Catholic Church, Chaptico, MD. He is also survived by his children: Joseph Francis Lawrence and his wife Darlene of Berryville, VA, James Dale Lawrence of Chaptico, MD and Christopher Scott Lawrence and his wife Mary of Clements, MD; sister: Rose Frances White of Coltons Point, MD; brothers: Charles Emory Lawrence of Hollywood, MD, William DeSales Lawrence of Waldorf, MD and George Elliott Lawrence of Bushwood, MD and 4 grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his sister: Barbara Ann Colson. Mr. Lawrence was a lifelong St. Mary's County resident and graduate of Margaret Brent High School Class of 1954. He served in the U.S. Army from September 24, 1954 â?? September 5, 1957 where he served in Berlin Germany for the 570th Military Police. Upon his return home, he worked with his father for 3 years in his grocery store. He was then employed by St. Mary's Hospital for 30 years as a Purchasing Agent until his retirement May 7, 1990. He was a member of the American Legion Post 221, Avenue, MD and his hobbies were boating, fishing, music, cutting grass and spending time with his family. The family received friends on Sunday, April 3 in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday, April 4 in Holy Angels Catholic Church with Rev. Robert Riedel officiating. Interment followed in Charles Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were Benjamin Lawrence, Eric Lawrence, John Morgan, Joseph A. "Buddy" Thompson, George Vallandingham and Zachary "ZJ" Hill. Honorary Pallbearers were Amanda Lawrence, Victoria Lawrence and Tiffany McKinney. Contributions may be made to American Legion Post 221, P.O. Box 98, Avenue, MD 20609 and/or 7th District Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 7, Avenue, MD 20609.
