James “Jim” Manning McKay, III. 47, of Lexington Park, MD formerly from Leonardtown, MD passed away on July 20, 2016. Born on August 19, 1968, he was the son of Karen Joy Dobry of Great Mills, MD and James M. McKay, Jr. of Hollywood, MD. Grandparents, Sam and Queenie Pilkerton and Mac and Mary McKay. James is survived by his sister Angel Cole of Mechanicsville, MD, Thomas Dobry, III of Lexington Park, MD, Bambi Etherton, Murray, KY, and James Robert Dobry, Great Mills, MD. Jim graduated from Leonardtown High School and was a lifelong St. Mary’s County, MD resident. He worked as a receiver for McKay’s Grocery Store for two and half years. Jim enjoyed photography.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home Leonardtown, MD. A Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 AM in the Funeral Home Chapel with Father Ray Schmidt officiating. Interment will be private.
Contributions may be made to St. John’s Catholic Church Hollywood, MD.

James “Manning” McKay, 89, of Hollywood, MD died December 9, 2008 at St. Mary’s Hospital. He was born October 23, 1919 in Hollywood, MD to the late George Franklin and Mary Blanche Clements McKay. He was the loving husband of Marilyn Ann McKay and the devoted father of Patricia Murr of Adelphi, MD, Elizabeth Johnson, James McKay, Jr, Thomas McKay and David McKay all of Hollywood, MD; Cherry Price of Leonardtown, MD, Beverly Ryan of Derwood, MD and Edward McKay of Fairfax Station, VA. He is also survived by his 25 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his siblings George Franklin McKay, Jr., Ernest McKay, Agnes “Doris” McKay, Leonard McKay, Pearl Green, Otha Sylvestor McKay, Elizabeth Steele Robey, Mary Irva Miedzinski, William Mervil McKay, Joseph Calvert McKay, Grace Rudisill and Robert Cross. Mr. McKay was a lifelong St. Mary’s County resident where he attended schools locally and in Washington, DC. He was the owner and founder of “McKay’s Food & Drug” Store and the “County Times Newspaper.” He also served for four years in the United States Navy during World War II. The family will receive friends in St. John’s Catholic Church, 43927 St. John’s Road, Hollywood, MD on Thursday, December 11, 2008 from 5 – 8 PM with prayers being said at 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John’s Catholic Church on Friday, December 12, 2008 at 10:00 AM with Fr. Ray officiating and Msgr. Harris co-officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Justin McKay, Chris Ryan, Steven Hammett, Eric McKay, Ricky Hammett, Michael Murr and Joe Johnson. This name jumped right out at me when I first saw it. Imagine if you can, young parents and a young high school student going to church one day back in 1968 to stand in witness of the baptism of a newly born baby boy named James Manning McKay III. Those young people were his parents, and me, his godmother, far too young to realize the importance of being a godmother at the time. Years have passed, I lost track of you all, but I still carry to this day a charm on a vintage silver bracelet engraved with the name of my godchild, little Jimmy.
Karen and Jimmy, I am so sorry for your loss. He was an unexpected blessing in your lives. I am sure you loved him well and that he loved you back. I too grieve the loss of the small blessing I held in my arms once.
