“A man of great perseverance and dedication to his family and business; if you crossed his path or received the chance to become his friend, you are truly blessed. He was a stellar man whose goal was to serve his family and the entire St. Mary’s County Community. His camaraderie, loyalty and devotion of kindness to his family, friends and community will be deeply missed. Thank you for being such a wonderful grandfather and leaving us with such amazing memories. We will miss you tremendously and love you forever. “

-
“Our prayers and thoughts are with the entire McKay family. Having known David and the family my entire life, this is a great loss. Mr. McKay was always very caring and thoughtful and a man of infinite wisdom. I will always remember the opportunities he provided me, from giving me a summer job as a Stock Clerk in the store during my college years in the late 70’s to hiring me as a Sales Associate at Dixon’s in the early 90’s. I am very grateful for the opportunities he gave me. I always enjoyed business and political conversations with him (and David and Tommy). Marcia and I are very saddened and we extend our deepest sympathies to the entire McKay family.”
-
“Ms.Mary and Family, I grew up in wonderful Hollywood and know the Legacy that Mac leaves behind. He always had a warm smile for everyone and never met a stranger. Mac was always there for the Fire and Ems as well. He took great pride in our Community and County always making it a better place to live. May God comfort you all during this said time and remember this Christmas he is sharing it with God and all the angels he so strongly believed in. David and Cyndi Wood”
-
“Eddie and the McKay family, my deepest sympathies to all of the McKay family. Your father will continue to live in your heart and memories.”
-
“Our condolences to the McKay family. Mr. Mckay was a true blessing in this community and he will forever be celebrated by many that reside in this great community. He will be missed by many but we know his legacy will live on through the works of his wonderful family. May God bless each and every one of you. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.”

“Pop-Pop always greeted everyone with the warm inviting smile and demeanor that made anyone feel like a member of the family. The impact he has had on so many lives will remain on in his absence. He will surely be missed, not only by me, but the entire community. To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die. My prayers are with you all in this difficult time and I hold you all very close to my heart. All my love. “
-
“J.C. and I extend our prayers and sympathies to the McKay family. It is never easy to loose a loved one. My thoughts when I heard about Mr. McKay’s passing were that he would be joining some of the icons of St. Mary’s County – my grandfather, Robert Miedzinski and J.C.’s parents, LeRoy & Marie Dyson, to name just a few. These people all left a lasting impression on many of the people of our county. Like many who wrote before me, I will miss having Mr. McKay greet me whenever I enter the family store.”
-
“Mrs. McKay and Family:Just a brief note to express my condolences. My Father, the late George E. Raley, knew Mr. McKay from his younger years when he worked at Pax after WWII before deciding to open up his grocery store. Though my Father did not always agree with Mr. McKay politically he had great respect for his work ethic and determination. For myself, personally, whenever I would meet Mr. McKay at one of the grocery stores or at a function he would always speak to me and did not wait for me to speak first,a trait not shared by many these days.”
-
“To the McKay Family, I send my deepest sympathy and my most heart felt condolences from myself, and my three children Darrin, Vickie and Jacoby. During the 70s’80s, and into the 90s’ when I was raising my children and not earning a lot of money Mr. McKay, was a real blessing from God, to our family. I could not have kept my children fed and, in clothes had it not been for the help that we received from Mr. McKay. And, even after the children were grown and before, Mr. McKay became to ill to visit the Lexington Park area, I would see him especially, at Christmas time, he always greeted me with his great big, wonderful, smile and inquired about my family. I can truly say, “that my life is a whole lot better today, as a result of having met, Mr. Manning McKay”. Mr. McKay, will receive the best Christmas present of all, this year because, he will spend it with the other Angels on high. May God, continue to bless you all. “
-

-
“I wish the right words would come to me, I am at such a loss for what I want to say. To me this man was just PERFECT. He did so much for people that went unreconized. He helped my parents so much when I was a small child and never asked to be repaid. Any time you met him out he always had time to stop and talk even if he was feeling bad. Yes we have lost a great person. My deepest smypathies to Mrs. McKay and the family. God Bless You Mr. Manning and something I should have told you before now Thank You for being there when our family needed a friend.”

I use to work at McKays when I was a teenager and the love and support both Mr. & Mrs. McKay gave me when my dad died was remarkable. We have lost a true kind and generous man! “MY WARM REGARDS TO THE MCKAY FAMILY. MANNING WAS ALWAYS SUCH A WONDERFUL FRIEND AND A TRUE GENTLEMAN.”
-
“To Mrs. McKay & Family I pray for you at this time of loss and suffering. As well as to you all, Mr. McKay’s going home to the Lord is a great loss to this county. He served us all well. My Father, whom I had deep reverence for, also had greatly admired Mr. McKay especially for his devotion to his family and often spoke of how Mr. McKay would talk, when he only had the one store in Hollywood, of his dream to have multiple stores with his children in charge of them. Many people do not live to see their dreams fulfilled as Mr. McKay did; we honor him for that. Also I met Mr. McKay personally when he was running for the Office of County Commissioner and have admired him ever since that time. Until I met Mr. McKay I did not believe that politicians could be honest and caring. If we had more persons in general and especially politicians like Mr. McKay, our world would truly be a better place for all to live. May God bless you all as you grieve and may the fact that so many others pray for you and grieve with you be of some comfort and consolation.”
-
“To the entire McKay family – please accept my sympathy on the loss of Mr. McKay. Thinking of you all -“

We are so very sorry for your loss. Our prayers are with you. May God’s love comfort you in this time of loss. Hold dear all of your precious memories of him.
This name jumped right out at me when I first saw it. Imagine if you can, young parents and a young high school student going to church one day back in 1968 to stand in witness of the baptism of a newly born baby boy named James Manning McKay III. Those young people were his parents, and me, his godmother, far too young to realize the importance of being a godmother at the time. Years have passed, I lost track of you all, but I still carry to this day a charm on a vintage silver bracelet engraved with the name of my godchild, little Jimmy.
Karen and Jimmy, I am so sorry for your loss. He was an unexpected blessing in your lives. I am sure you loved him well and that he loved you back. I too grieve the loss of the small blessing I held in my arms once.
With love and remembrance of days gone by.
Pat Bailey (Cross) Leslie
Please accept my condolences for the loss of your loved one. It is at difficult times like this that we well appreciate how fragile life can be for all of us. Many find comfort in the sure promises found in God’s Word, the Bible. For those who have paid the price of death, He promises to resurrect them to life once again (John 5:28, 29). The Bible makes it clear that God never purposed for mankind to die but to live on a beautiful paradise earth forever (Genesis 1:28; Psalm 37:10, 11, 29). We certainly look forward to the day when He will satisfy everyone of our desires (Psalm 145:16) and death will be no more (Revelation 21:3, 4). Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
We are deeply saddened by your loss. We will cherish the memories of the times we spent together with “Jim Boe”.
With our deepest sympathy.
The Shelton Family
Karen and Jimmy, so very sorry to hear of the loss of your son. We offer our prayers to all the family.
