James Ronald "Ronnie" Bean

James Ronald “Ronnie” Bean, age 60, of Hollywood, Maryland, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Friday, August 21, 2026. With the love and support of his family by his side, Ronnie fought a long and courageous battle with myotonic muscular dystrophy and cancer.

Born on September 24, 1965, in Leonardtown, Maryland, Ronnie was the son of William Benjamin “Billy” Bean Jr. and Mary Ann Bean. He was a lifelong resident of St. Mary’s County and a proud 1984 graduate of Leonardtown High School.

On October 13, 1990, Ronnie married his high school sweetheart, Gina “Michelle” Bean, at St. John’s Church in Hollywood, Maryland. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised their family.

Ronnie was a plumber by trade and spent 20 years working for the Architect of the Capitol as a pipefitter at the United States Capitol and Library of Congress. He retired on January 1, 2021.

Ronnie found happiness in the simple things in life. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and, perhaps most of all, cutting grass. He loved driving and working on his Allis-Chalmers tractor and could often be found enjoying tractor pulls. He was a devoted Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Nationals fan and proudly followed NASCAR, especially Dale Earnhardt Sr.

Ronnie was a hardworking, loving, and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. His love for his family, his passion for the outdoors, and the memories he created throughout his life will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Ronnie was preceded in death by his grandparents, Benjamin and Henrietta Bean; James Kenny Heard Jr.; Mary Alberta and Gary Kamm.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Gina “Michelle” Bean; his daughters, Brittany Marie Raley and her husband, Nick, of Hollywood, Maryland, and Lindsey Nicole Cusick and her husband, Kyle, of California, Maryland; his siblings, Karen Johnson and her husband David of Leonardtown, Maryland, and Cheryl Ann Bean of Hollywood, Maryland; and his beloved grandsons, Brayden James Raley and Camden Edward Raley of Hollywood, Maryland.

Ronnie’s family will receive friends on Monday, August 31st from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with prayers recited at 7:00 p.m., at Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home in Leonardtown, Maryland. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 1st at 10:00 a.m., with Deacon Ammon Ripple officiating, in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at Charles Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Leonardtown, Maryland.

Serving as pallbearers will be David Johnson, Michael Johnson, Leonard Bean, Joey Bean, Michael Goldsborough, and Kenny Goldsborough. Honorary pallbearers will be his sons-in-law, Nick Raley and Kyle Cusick, and his grandsons, Brayden Raley and Camden Raley.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Mary’s in Callaway, MD or A Community that Shares “ACTS” in Avenue, MD.
