James Roy Morgan, Jr.
March 30, 1946 ~ March 10, 2025
James “Roy” Morgan Jr., 78, of Leonardtown, MD, formerly of Clearwater FL, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on March 10, 2025, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Leonardtown MD. Born on March 30, 1946, in Leonardtown, MD, he was the son of the late James Roy Morgan Sr. and the late Margaret Louise (Quade) Morgan. Roy is survived by his siblings, Dennis Morgan (Sandy), Jean Nelson (Donnie), Steve Morgan (Cindy) of Mechanicsville MD, Gail White (Roger) of Abell MD, Kathy Guy of Leonardtown MD, and Kevin Morgan (Lisa Wyant) of Chaptico MD, his stepdaughters, Debbie Kollar (Joe) of Abell MD and Wendy Long (Tony) of Mechanicsville MD, his stepson, Allen Modlin of Little Hocking, OH, his sister-in-law, Mary Frances Wheeler (Bryant) of Easton MD, seven nieces, two nephews, six great nieces, eight great nephews, one great-great nephew, eight step grandchildren, 13 step great-grandchildren, one step great-great granddaughter, and his loyal fur baby, Roxy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 29 years, Barbara Ann (Sullivan) Morgan, his brother, Glenn Morgan, his brother-in-law, Bobby Guy, his nephew-in-law, Charles Greenwell, his great-nephew, Steven Alan Cusic Jr., and his stepson, Kenny Modlin.
Roy was a lifelong resident of St. Mary’s County, MD, except for his stay in Clearwater, FL (almost 20 years). Roy graduated from Margaret Brent High School in Morganza MD, class of 1964. He worked for Southern Maryland Electric Coop (SMECO) in Charles County, MD, from September 1967 to June 2003, and retired as chief lineman, with 36 years of service. In his younger days you could find him on the softball field at Hills Club cranking out the long ball, drinking a Miller Lite, and earning the nickname of “Big Foot”. While he was in Clearwater, he mastered the game of shuffleboard, and, naturally, being from St. Mary’s County, he was always up for a good pitch game, playing poker, eating hard crabs, oysters, and stuffed ham, and sitting around talking about the good old days. Whether in Florida or Maryland, you could always find him doing yard work or passing time at the local bingo hall.
Roy was a gentle giant with a heart to match. He loved spending time with family, especially the little ones. He was deeply loved by all, and we will miss him so much at our family gatherings. We will cherish the memories we made together and hold him close to our hearts until we meet again. Please watch over us from above and rest in eternal peace, brother.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 16, 2025,from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, with prayers recited at 4:00 PM, in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD. Roy, I carry a lot of memories of us, but the one I will cherish the most was while you were battling in your last days you looked up at me and said “Dennis hold my hand”. Love you, until we meet again.
