Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at 10:00 AM in Holy Angels Catholic Church, Avenue, MD with Fr. William Gurnee officiating. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Bushwood, MD. Visitation: The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 31, 2009 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD where prayers will be said at 7:00 PM. James Vernon “Bub” Nelson, 62 of Avenue, MD died March 27, 2009 at his residence. Born September 11, 1946 in Avenue, MD he was the son of Mary Catherine Nelson of Avenue, MD and the late James Phillip Nelson. He is also survived by his siblings Phyllis Wagner of McCook, NE, Pat Nelson of Orlando, FL and Steve Nelson of Avenue, MD. A lifelong resident of St. Mary’s County, James graduated from Margaret Brent High School and was a waterman who retired in 2008. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 31, 2009 from 5:00-8:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD where prayers will be said at 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at 10:00 AM in Holy Angels Catholic Church, Avenue, MD with Fr. William Gurnee officiating. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Bushwood, MD. Pallbearers will be Donnie Guy, John Hammett, Ernie Woodall, JF Long, Wayne Stone and Tucker Brown.
