Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday March 29, 2006 @ 1:00 PM in St. George's Episcopal Church in Valley Lee, MD.
Visitation:
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 28, 2006 from 5 - 8 PM inthe funeral home chapel with prayers being held at 7:00PM with Masonic Prayers @ 7:15PM.
James Woodrow "Woody" Potter, Sr., 92 of Piney Point, MD died March 25, 2006 in St. Mary's Hospital. Born April 18, 1913 on St. George Island, MD he was the son of the late Edward Rich and Clara Mae Twilley Potter. He was the loving husband of Elizabeth Gene Poe Potter whom he married on February 22, 1997 on St. George Island, MD. He is survived by his children and their spouses: Ann Howells and her husband Dennis of Carrollton, TX, Joyce Parsons and her husband Curtis of Hague, VA and James Potter, Jr. and his wife Linda of Dameron, MD; step-children and their spouses: Sheila Nelson of La Plata, MD, Hooper Nelson & his wife Laurie of Lusby, MD, Betty Jo Barbeau of Tea, SD, Rodger Nelson of St. George Island, MD and Marion McFann and her husband Bill of St. George Island, MD; 17 grandchildren: Paul Wilson, Mark Wilson, Russell Howells, Michelle Shafer, Denise Smith, Dien Wilson, James A. Potter and Kelly Potter; 10 step-grandchildren: Alan Barbeau, April Nelson, Jason Nelson, Brandon Nelson, Sarah Nelson, Steven Elgersma, Stephanie Elgersma, Andrew Nelson and Michael McFann. Mr. Potter was preceded in death by his first wife Dorthy Ethel Thompson Potter, sister Leona May Clark and brother Francis Bryan Potter. Mr. Potter was a life long St. Mary's County resident and worked as the Chief of Utilities for Washington National Airport until his retirement in 1969. He belonged to the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Shrine and Eastern Star. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 28, 2006 from 5:00 â?? 8:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, where Prayers will be said at 7:00 PM followed by Masonic Prayers at 7:15 PM. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at 1:00 PM in St. George Episcopal Church, Valley Lee, MD with Rev. Albie Hazen officiating. Interment will follow in St. George Episcopal Cemetery, Valley Lee, MD. Pallbearers will be Michael Paul Wilson, Dien Wilson, James A. Potter, Fred Shafer, Jr., Brandon Nelson and Steven Elgersma. Honorary Pallbearers will be Otha Jones, Hooper Nelson, Donald McKinney, James Lumpkins, Rodger Nelson and Bill Lavender. Contributions may be made to Valley Lee Volunteer Fire Department, P.O.
