Jean Marie Matthews “Jean”, 85, of Hollywood, MD passed away on October 14, 2016 at her home. Born on September 6, 1931 in Washington, DC, she was the daughter of Mary Rosalie Norris of Leonardtown, MD and the late Frederick A. Norris. Jean is survived by her loving husband Orville Dale Matthews whom she married in St. John’s Catholic Church Hollywood, MD. Jean is survived by her daughter: Patricia Dale Joy (Calvin) Hollywood, MD, 2 grandsons: Mark Dale Joy (Jessica) of Gumboro, DE, and Eric Paul Joy (Samantha) of Pasadena, MD, and great grandchildren: Hunter Joy, Gracie Joy, and Parker Joy. Siblings: Alice Knott, Freddie Norris, Billy Norris and Janice Abell. She was preceded in death by her son James William Matthews. She graduated from Great Mills High School in 1950 and was a lifelong resident of St. Mary’s County, MD. She was a homemaker. Jean was a Charter Member of the Hollywood Vol. Rescue Squad Auxiliary and served as President and Vice President for multiple terms. She was inducted as a Life Member of the Auxiliary after many dedicated years of faithful service. Jean was also an Associate Member of the Hollywood Vol. Fire Department, helping in any way she could at various fund raisers. Jean enjoyed being with her family, playing golf & bingo, quilting and needle pointing. She loved to travel, especially with her daughter Pattie. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM with prayers recited at 7:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home Leonardtown, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at 10:00 AM in St. John’s Catholic Church Hollywood, MD with Father Ray Schmidt officiating. Interment will follow in the Church cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Mark Joy, Eric Joy, Jimmy Knott, Robb Albert, Joey Norris, and Robby Abell. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Joe Knott, Rose Dale Yannayon, Missy Dorsey, Jamie Weber, George Allen Abell, and Jill Norris. In lieu flowers donation may be made to the Hollywood Vol. Rescue Squad P.O. Box 79 Hollywood, MD 20636 and/or Hollywood Vol. Fire Department P.O. Box 7 Hollywood, MD 20636.
