Jerry Lynn Coats, 77, of Mechanicsville, MD formerly from Clinton, MD passed away on April 9, 2016 in Washington, DC. Born on May 25, 1938 in Blytheville, AR, he was the son of the late Alice Collins Coats and Frank Coats. Jerry was the loving of husband of Amelia Coats, whom he married on August 8, 1959 in Lynch, KY. Jerry is survived by his sons; Jeffery Coats (Kimberly) of Mechanicville, MD, Christopher Coats (Jacqueline) of Gainesville, FL, and 2 grandchildren. Siblings; Olivia Sue Hughes of Jackson, TN, and Donna Lou Jones of Houston, TX. He was preceded in death by his sister Betty Gail Spears. He graduated from Armorel High School in 1956 and moved from Prince George’s County, MD to St. Mary’s County, MD in 1987. Jerry worked as a supervisory computer specialist for the Executive Office of the President of the United States for 30 years retiring on December 12, 1995. Jerry belonged to the NARFE, and Volunteered for Crime Solvers. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and traveling. The family will receive friends on Monday, April 18, 2016 from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home Leonardtown, MD. A Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 AM with Deacon Joe Lloyd officiating. Interment will be private. Pallbearers will be; Jeffery Coats, Christopher Coats, Ed Campbell and Richard Jones. Contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s National Association 10665 Stanheaven Road, #205D White Plains, MD 20695.
