A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 27, 2006 at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of the Wayside Catholic Church, Maddox Road, Chaptico, MD with Fr. Timothy Baer officiating. Interment will follow in Queen of Peace Cemetery, Helen, MD.
Visitation:
Viewing/Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2006 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, 41590 Fenwick Street, Leonardtown, MD where Prayers will be said at 7:00 PM followed by Optimist Prayers at 7:15 PM.
John "David" Beavan lost his 16-month long battle with cancer on Monday, October 23, 2006 and passed away surrounded by family at his home in Chaptico. David was born on November 13, 1951 at St. Mary's Hospital in Leonardtown. He grew up on the family farm and worked there with his father and brother for eleven years after graduation from High School. He began his own family with Margaret Hill of Mechanicsville whom he married on November 19, 1977. In 1982 he joined Southern Maryland Oil (SMO) working his way up to Senior Technician. After 21 years of service at SMO, he moved on to IAP World Services to apply his knowledge and expertise in HVAC repair and maintenance. David and Margaret were blessed with two children John "Johnny" David Beavan, Jr. and Brian Christopher Beavan. David spent his free time helping on the family farm, landscaping, pruning trees and supporting Brian in Motocross events. He was past president of the 4th District Optimist Club and past Vice President of the Seventh District Optimist Club. In addition to his wife and children, he is also survived by his mother, Agnes "Marie" Hayden Beavan and nine brothers and sisters. James B. "Jimmy" Beavan, Jr. and his wife Shirley of Laurel, Anne Marie Beavan and Ralph Dorland of Fort Collins, CO, Michael W. Beavan and his wife Patsy, George B. Beavan and his wife Alison, Joseph A. Beavan and his wife Alicia all of Chaptico, Janet L. Beavan Hittle and her husband Rusty of Plano, TX, Susan E. Guy and her husband Raymond of Clements, Robert A. Beavan and his wife Eva of Frederick and William H. Beavan and his wife Kim of Thurmont; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Zack and Christine Hill of Mechanicsville. He was preceded in death by his father, James Benjamin "Jimmy" Beavan, Sr., his grandparents Bernard Stanton Sr., Lillian Catherine Mattingly Beavan, James Elton and Daisy Elizabeth Hayden and his nephew Byron James "BJ" Guy. Public visitation will be held at the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home on Thursday, October 26, 2006 from 5-8 PM with prayers being said at 7:00 PM followed by Optimist Prayers at 7:10 PM. Interment will follow in the Queen of Peace cemetery. Pallbearers will be George Beavan, Johnny Beavan, Brian Beavan, Adrian F. Hill, Adrian F. Hill, Jr. and Kevin Bearden. Honorary Pallbearers will be Wayne Morgan, Bill Mattingly, Mike Yowaiski, Ralph Dorland, David Franklin and Jeff Hayes. An Educational Fund has been established for the children, Johnny and Brian Beavan. Those wishing to contribute to the fund may send donations to the account of John D.
