A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 16, 2005 at 10:00 AM in Holy Angels Catholic Church with Father John Barry officiating. Interment will follow in All Saint's Episcopal Cemetery.
Visitation:
Public Viewing & Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 15, 2005 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home with Prayers being said at 7:00 PM
John Dennis Raley, Jr., 81, of Avenue, MD died November 13, 2005 in George Washington University Hospital, Washington, DC. Born November 12, 1924 in Avenue, MD he was the son of the late John Dennis and Mary Evelyn Bailey Raley, Sr. He was the loving husband of Virginia E. Ragan Raley whom he married in 1955. He was the devoted father of three children: John Dennis Raley, III and his wife Brenda; Carol Ann Pingleton and her husband Wayne and Barbara Lacey and her husband, the late William Lacey. He is survived by seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. He was the brother of Julia Jones of Napa Valley, CA, Joseph and Frances Raley of Lake Charles, LA and Aloysius and Joan Raley of Avenue, MD. He is preceded in death by his brothers and sisters: James K. Raley, Walter B. Raley, Shirley Ann Norris and Barbara Clare Gasiewicz. Mr. Raley worked for the Maryland State Highway Administration ending his career as a Resident Maintenance Engineer after 36 years when retiring in 1984. During this time he also farmed his beloved farm in Avenue. Upon his retirement he became a full-time farmer and pursued his favorite pastime of planting a garden, flowers and working in the yard. He loved to plant his garden just so he could give his neighbors and friends the fruits of his labor. As a young man he was an avid ball fan and hardball player for the Old Gum team. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and in his later years just enjoyed watching his brothers, nephews and friends hunt on the family farm. He was an associate member of the Seventh District Volunteer Rescue Squad and an active member of Holy Angels Parish. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 15, 2005 from 5:00 â?? 8:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, where Prayers will be said at 7:00 PM. Interment will follow in All Saint's Episcopal Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jay Raley, Austin Pingleton, Bill Lacey, Bobby Raley, Jamie Raley and C.D. Raley. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. Contributions may be made to 7th District Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O.
