Services:
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 27, 2006 at 10:00 AM in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Morganza, MD with Fr. Keith Woods officiating. Interment will follow in Queen of Peace Cemetery.
Visitation:
Public visitation will be held in the funeral home on Thursday, January 26, 2006 from 5 - 8 PM with prayers being said at 7:00 PM.
Joseph Alexander "Papa Joe" Winters, Sr., 94, of Lexington Park, MD died January 21, 2006 in Bayside Care Center. Born April 21, 1911 in Chaptico, MD he was the son of the late Alexander and Maude Holt Winters. He was the loving husband Blanche Dorsey Winters whom he married in La Plata, MD. She was the loving mother of Yvonne Robinson of Temple Hills, MD, Gladys Estep of Lexington Park, MD, Wilma Estep, James Winters, Sr., William Winters, Sr. and Joseph Douglas all of Mechanicsville, MD and Paul Winters of La Plata, MD. He is survived by 38 grandchildren, 51 great grandchildren and 19 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth Spears Winters; daughters Agnes Jordan, Loretta Medley, and Barbara Winters; son Joseph Alexander Winters, Jr.; brothers Richard Winters and Dick Winters and sister Mary Winters. Mr. Winters was a life long St. Mary's County resident where he received his education. He was employed as a farmer and horticulturist for Cremona Farm for 63 years. The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 26, 2006 from 5:00 â?? 8:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 27, 2006 at 10:00 AM in St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Father Keith Woods officiating. Interment will follow in Queen of Peace Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dale Jordan, Joseph Medley, Jr., Kevin Winters, James Winters, Jr., Julius Estep, and Wayne Estep. Honorary Pallbearers will be Russell Coates, Jerry Estep, Charles Estep, Jr. Jerry Harris, Marcus Estep, Alvin Jordan and William Winters, Jr. Arrangements provided by the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, P.A.
