Joseph “Archie” Morgan, Jr. (“Poncho”)

Joseph “Archie” Morgan, Jr., affectionately known as “Poncho,” passed away surrounded by the love of his family on July 11, 2026. Born on April 9, 1950, in Leonardtown, Maryland, Archie was the son of the late Joseph “Archie” Morgan, Sr. and Margaret Gertrude (Owens) Morgan.

Archie was raised on the Morgan Brothers Farm in Mechanicsville, Maryland, nestled along the Patuxent River and Persimmon Creek. From an early age, he worked side by side with his father tending tobacco crops and vegetable gardens. Life on the farm instilled in him a deep appreciation for the outdoors, and he found great joy in hunting, fishing, and spending time on the water.

Archie had an infectious love for life. He enjoyed dancing, listening to music, playing baseball, fast cars, and sharing laughter with family and friends. His interests also included comedy, history, nature, and classic western movies. Holidays were especially dear to him, as they brought opportunities to celebrate with those he loved most.

Later in life, Archie worked for Burch Oil, where he became a familiar face throughout the county and genuinely enjoyed visiting with the many customers he served. Following retirement, he found happiness in raising chickens and delivering fresh eggs to local customers. Whether washing his vehicles, tending his garden, or meticulously caring for his lawn, Archie took pride in everything he did.

His favorite place, however, was the back porch of his home overlooking the river. There he could often be found watching ruby-throated hummingbirds gather at their feeders, geese glide across the water, and the abundant wildlife that surrounded him. Those peaceful moments reflected the simple pleasures he treasured most.

Archie will be remembered for his easygoing spirit, unwavering optimism, down-to-earth nature, contagious laughter, and wonderful sense of humor. He had a way of making others feel at ease and leaving them with a smile. His presence will be deeply missed, and his memory will be forever cherished by all who knew and loved him—especially his family.

Archie is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Lois Marie (Dingee) Morgan; his daughters, Karen Michelle Pulliam (Allan), Lillian Patricia Turner (Robert), and Cynthia Denise Nelka (Raymond); his grandsons, Corey Allen Anderson (Shelly), Brandon Kyle Pulliam, and Devon Lee Strawser; his great-grandchildren, Lilly, Joseph, Madison, and Ryan Anderson; and his sisters, Joyce A. Hart and JoAnne Pegg.

In addition to his parents, Archie was preceded in death by his brothers, Harry E. Morgan, Samuel J. “Sammy” Morgan, and Melvin D. Morgan.

Archie’s legacy lives on in the countless memories he created, the love he shared so freely, and the lasting impact he made on everyone fortunate enough to know him. Though he will be greatly missed, his laughter, kindness, and enduring love for family will remain in the hearts of those who loved him forever.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 16, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM with prayers recited at 7:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD. Where a Funeral Service will be held on Friday, July 17, 2026, at 10:00 AM in the Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Paul Nguyen officiating.
