Josephine Theresa Cusic

Services: Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 19, 2004 at 10:00 AM in St. John's Catholic Church with Father Ray Schmidt officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation: Public viewing will be held in the funeral home on Sunday, July 18, 2004 from 2 - 5 PM with prayers being held at 4:00 PM. Josephine T. "Phiney" Cusic, 77, of Hollywood, MD died on July 14, 2004 at her residence. She was born on October 3, 1926 in Hollywood, MD the daughter of the late Louise Thompson and Joseph Alvey. Mrs. Cusic is survived by her children: Stephanie Abell and her husband, Floyd and Jo Allen Mattingly of Hollywood, MD.; Nora Jane Hier and her husband, Mickey, of Pittsford, VT; Larry Cusic and his wife, Marcia, of Omaha, NE. and Kevin Cusic and his wife, Charlene, of Hollywood, MD. ; her grandchildren, Timmy Mattingly of Hollywood; Jamie Buzzell, Tina Korzun, Ben and Kevin Hier of Vermont; Marie, Philip, Ellie and Theresa Cusic of Omaha, NE; Ashley & Christopher Cusic of Hollywood, MD and two great-grandchildren, Guy and Nicole Clarke. She is also survived by a sister, Joan Long, of Mechanicsville, and her friend and caretaker, Thelma Woodland. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Allen Cusic, on December 24, 1981 and also a son, James Anthony Cusic on October 3, 1979; her sisters, Mary Conner and Juanita Anderson and a brother, George Ray Alvey. Phiney and her husband owned and operated C&C Plumbing & Septic in Hollywood, MD. She retired in 1991 and her son, Kevin, now operates the business. She enjoyed working as a volunteer for Helping Hands where she was on the Board of Directors for some years. Helping people was her main goal. She was active in the Hollywood Rescue Squad Auxiliary until her health limited her ability to volunteer. Her great love for her children and grandchildren kept her going. She especially enjoyed crabbing with her grandchildren. The family received friends on Sunday, July 18th at the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home and a Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday, July 19th at St. John's Catholic Church with Father Ray Schmidt officiating. Mrs. Cusic was laid to rest next to her husband and son in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were her sons, Larry and Kevin Cusic; grandsons, Timmy Mattingly, Jamie Buzzell, and Philip Cusic; and her nephew, Harold Anderson, Jr. Honorary pallbearers were her grandchildren who also participated in the services in Church.
