Kenneth "Scottie" Scott Bean
October 16, 1976 ~ May 14, 2026
Kenneth Scott “Scottie” Bean, beloved father, son, brother, grandfather, and friend, passed away surrounded by the love of those whose lives he touched so deeply on May 14th, 2026. Known to many simply as “Scottie,” he never met a stranger and had a gift for making everyone around him smile.
Born to Joseph Leonard Bean Sr. and Donna Marie Bean, Scottie was the youngest of two boys alongside his brother, Joseph “Joey” Leonard Bean Jr. From a young age, he developed the caring and generous spirit that would define his life. If someone needed help, Scottie was always the first to offer it — even giving the shirt off his back without hesitation. He was dependable in every sense of the word. No matter the time, the situation, or the distance, if you needed Scottie, he was only ever a phone call away.
At just 19 years old, Scottie became a father to his first daughter, Kayla Renee. While balancing the responsibilities of fatherhood and work, he maintained his ability to be an incredible friend and the biggest social butterfly to all who knew him. Whether you were family, a lifelong friend, or someone he had just met, time spent with Scottie guaranteed laughter, stories, and unforgettable memories.
Scottie was also known for his unmatched work ethic. He worked hard throughout his life to provide for his family and took pride in everything he did. Dedicated, dependable, and never afraid of hard work, he earned the respect of everyone who worked alongside him. No matter how tired he may have been, he still made time for the people he loved and never hesitated to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
Scottie lived life fully, freely, and unapologetically. He never worried about the opinions of others and believed life was meant to be enjoyed on your own terms. If he was around, he was guaranteed to have a smile on his face and laughter all around him. He had a way of making ordinary moments unforgettable simply by being himself — carefree, genuine, and completely present with the people he loved.
Years later, Scottie was blessed with three more children: Kevin, Erin, and Lindon. His family remained at the center of his life, and he treasured every moment spent with his children. Months before the birth of Kevin, Scottie became a “Pappy” for the first time to his precious granddaughter, Remingtyn Grace.
He loved the outdoors and found peace in life’s simple pleasures. Summer mornings were often spent on the water crabbing and fishing, and evenings were best enjoyed outside listening to bluegrass music and taking in the beauty around him. Dad was especially serious about his crabs — God forbid you missed one. He would quickly remind everyone, “I’m out here to catch the crabs, not miss them!” He enjoyed playing pool, shuffleboard, cards, sharing laughs with friends, and never passed up a good chili cheese hotdog. One of the most special relationships in his life was with his best friend and father, whom he affectionately called “Daddy.”
Scottie met his girlfriend, Karen Wathen, and the two quickly became inseparable. Where one went, the other usually was not far behind. Together they shared laughter, companionship, and countless memories, enjoying life side by side.
Scottie proudly served as Governor of the Patuxent Moose Lodge #2393 for two terms and associate member of the Hollywood Volunteer Fire Department, dedicating countless hours to fellowship and community. He was also a proud member of the Steamfitters Local 602 Union, where he worked for nearly 30 years.
He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Erin Bean; his maternal grandparents, Shaffer and Catherine Dorsey; and his paternal grandparents, Benjamin and Henrietta Bean.
Scottie is survived by his daughter, Kayla (Casey) Grimes of Callaway, Maryland; his sons, Kevin Bean and Lindon Bean of Hollywood, Maryland; his parents, Donna and Leonard Bean of Hollywood, Maryland; his girlfriend, Karen Wathen of Hollywood, Maryland; his brother, Joseph Leonard Bean Jr. (Jennifer) of Leonardtown, Maryland; his cherished grandchildren, Jarrette Grimes, Remingtyn Slaughter, and Griffin Grimes of Callaway, Maryland; his adored nephew Justin (Kara) Bean of Leonardtown, Maryland; niece Alyssa Bean of Leonardtown, Maryland; his precious great-nephew Grayson Welch of Leonardtown, Maryland; and another dearly loved great-nephew expected later this year.

Scottie’s kindness, laughter, tireless work ethic, dependable heart, stubborn spirit, and love for life will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but the memories he created — the smiles, the stories, and the unforgettable moments — will live on forever in the hearts of his family and friends.

Anyone who knows me knows that I am rarely at a loss for words, but I am now. Scottie was such an amazing soul. He knew exactly how to put a smile on my face when I was being stubborn refusing to smile. He was the light in a dark room. I will never forget his big smile, loud cackles, and warm hugs.
Love, Toni (Byrd) Higgs
To the Bean Family, we are sending you our love and constant prayers. Scottie had such a kind and generous heart. From the days when Cara watched Wyatt as a baby, Scottie always went out of his way to look out for Wyatt and me, especially during some of our toughest times. His warmth, smile, and sense of humor brought so much light when we needed it most, and we will never forget his goodness to us. Scottie’s kindness will live on in the hearts of the many people he touched. May God grant your family strength and peace in the days ahead. With all our love, Jessica and Wyatt
