A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at 11:00AM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Verne Haskell officiating. Interment will be private.
Visitation:
The family will receive friends on Friday, February 22, 2013 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM with prayers recited at 7:00PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD.
Kevin James Cooke, 22 of Mechanicsville, MD died February 18, 2013 at his residence.
Born February 24, 1990 in Prince Frederick, MD, he was the son of Douglas Cooke of Mechanicsville, MD, Kelly Cooke, and Step-father Joseph Bracken of St. Inigoes, MD.
Kevin is survived by his maternal grandparents; Corrin and Sharon Colledge of Breezewood, PA, and, paternal grandmother Rose Mary Ingersoll of Bradenton, FL, siblings, Brittany Murphy (Kevin) of Bushwood, MD, Joey Bracken of St. Inigoes, MD, and Samantha Bracken of St. Inigoes, MD, nephew, K.J. Nelson, Jr., and niece, Peyton Murphy. Kevin was preceded in death by his paternal grandfathers, Cleveland Cooke, and Charles Ingersoll. Kevin was a lifelong resident of St. Mary’s County, he graduated from Chopticon High School in 2008, and earned 2 scholarships from the James A. Forrest Tech Center to further his training. Kevin was a Sheet Metal Mechanic, with Strongberg Sheet Metal for four years, during this time he earned seven Welding Certifications. Kevin enjoyed and raced at dirt tracks (#222). The family will receive friends on Friday, February 22, 2013 from 5:00PM to 8:00PM with prayers recited at 7:00PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD. He touched many hearts & had a love and passion for music. Kevin showed no discrimination for age. He could hang out with people his own age & be just as comfortable around people twice his age. He did hang out with band members frequently that were twice his age & he fit in just fine. I think as long as long as Kevin was doing something he loved, nothing else mattered. Some may say he was a loner… We don’t think this as entirely true. He was a great guy that displayed honesty & integrity in life which was reflected in the way he carried himself & displayed his passions for life. He may have been just 22 but he seemed to be just coming into “his own”, which is incredible for someone his age. He should be remembered as a great person & a role model to all. There is not any other way to explain Kevin other then he was a great guy & his parents & family should be very proud in raising such a wonderful, well rounded person.
