Larry Leroy Younger Capt., U.S. Navy

Larry Leroy Younger, 76, of Lexington Park, MD, passed away on August 28, 2025, at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. Born on September 13, 1948, in Canton, OH, he was the son of the late Eleonor Marie Schaffer and the late John Raymond Younger. Larry was the loving husband of Patricia Ann Younger, whom he married in St. Mary’s Church, Annapolis, MD.
Larry graduated from McKinley High School. He went on to earn his bachelor’s degrees in accounting and finance in 1977 from Akron University and then his master’s degree in healthcare administration in 1979 from Ohio State University. During his career, Larry worked at the Calvert County Nursing Center, the Bayside Nursing Center, the Berlin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and most recently, the Charlotte Hall Veterans Home; he retired in 2014 after five years of service.
Larry served in the United States Navy for 32 years, from 1968 to 2001. During this time, he held several positions in Washington, D.C, including two tours at Bethesda Naval Hospital, Recruiting Command, Bureau of Navy Personnel, and Bureau of Navy Medicine. He also received eight personal military awards, including the Legion of Merit.
In addition to his career and military service, Larry was a Fellow at the American College of Healthcare Executives, a Past Chair of St. Mary’s Commission on Aging, a member of the American Legion, and a member of the Planning Committee for Southern Maryland Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk for five years.
The family will receive friends on Monday, September 8, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM in Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Lexington Park, MD, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
