Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, January 16, 2006, at 10:00 AM in Our Lady's Catholic Church with Father William Berry officiating. Interment will in in St. John's Catholic Cemetery Visitation: Viewing and Visitation will be held Sunday, January 15, 2006, from 2:00 - 5:00 PM with Prayers being said at 3:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home. Laura "Mae" Ball Spalding, 83, of Leonardtown, MD died January 9, 2006 in Washington Hospital Center. Born September 16, 1922 in Hollywood, MD she was the daughter of the late William Ernest and Sarah Amanda Greenwell Knott. She was preceded in death by her husbands Charles Henry Ball and Joseph Edward Spalding. She is survived by her children and their spouses: Sara Woodburn and her husband Teeny, Charles Ball and his wife Ellen, Billy Ball and his wife Barbara, and Francis Russell all of Leonardtown, MD, Gary Ball and his wife Patti of Ohio; 16 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her daughter Ann Russell, sisters Bertha Burch, Helen Quade, Grace Bean, Lillian Abell, Rosalie Hayden, brothers John Knott and William Knott. Mrs. Spalding was a life long St. Mary's County resident. She was a homemaker and during her senior years she employed with Oakley Hall/Office On Aging as a senior citizen aid. She enjoyed needlework, duck carving and flower gardening. The family received friends on Sunday, January 15, 2006 in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday, January 16, 2006 in Our Lady's Catholic Church with Father William Berry officiating. Interment followed in St. John's Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers were be Francis Russell, Jr., Archie Russell, Andy Ball, Brandon Ball, David Woodburn, Ricky Woodburn, Chris Ball, and Wes Ball.
