Lois Marie Guy
February 13, 1954 ~ March 27, 2025
Lois Marie Farrell Guy, 71, of Avenue, Maryland passed away Thursday, March 27, 2025, surrounded by family in her home. Born February 13, 1954, she was the daughter of the late Agnes Lorraine Farrell and Charles Henry Farrell.
Lois is survived by her siblings, Rose Ann Friess (Henry, Jr.) of Bushwood, MD and Leonard Edward Farrell (Terree) of Waldorf, MD. She had one niece, Melissa Lynn Friess-Bailey (T Bailey III), of Avenue, MD. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lorraine and Charles Farrell and her brother, Charles William Farrell.
Lois, a lifelong St. Mary’s County resident, graduated from Chopticon High School in 1973. After high school she worked at the Pentagon but soon found her calling working at St. Mary’s Hospital where she worked for years with her sister. But the majority of Lois’ career was dedicated to serving the residents of St. Mary’s Nursing Center from where she retired in February 2019. She often spoke about her co-workers who became her life-long friends.
Lois was a devout Catholic and patron of Holy Angels Catholic Church in Avenue. She valued spending time with her family and the network of friends whom she met while working at the local hospital and nursing facilities. Lois was a caring individual who always tried to help others whenever possible. One of her favorite hobbies was cooking – she loved to cook and when she did it was always enough for a feast. Often, she would prepare meals and share them with family and friends for the joy of it. She also loved her sewing machine! For years she was the family seamstress known for making last-minute fixes. She loved crocheting and spent hours creating items for family and friends. Her willingness to share her talents with others epitomized her kind-heartedness toward everyone.
She was always up for a road trip, going shopping, dancing, or, occasionally, going to play the slots for fun. Lois enjoyed the simple things in life and could always be found outside on a sunny day tending her gardens or caring for her lawn.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with prayers recited at 7:00 PM, in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at 10:00 AM, in Holy Angels Catholic Church, Avenue, MD, with Father Kevin Fields officiating. Interment will follow at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be T. Bailey III, Dennis Lacey, Jr. Farrell, Keith Hewitt, JW Vallandingham, and Timmy Vallandingham.
Memorial contributions can be made to Holy Angels Catholic Church, 21340 Colton Point Road, Avenue, Maryland 20609.
