A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2014 at 11:00 AM in St. John’s Catholic Church Hollywood, MD with Father Ray Schmidt officiating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery Morganza, MD.
Visitation:
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM with prayers recited at 7:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home Leonardtown, MD.
Mary Agnes Pilkerton, 82, of California, MD formerly from Landover Hills, MD passed away on August 13, 2014 from complications of Alzheimer’s disease at Washington Adventist Hospital Takoma Park MD. She was the daughter of the late Helen Agnes McDonald Regeon and Albert E. Regeon. Mary was the wife of the late James Richard Pilkerton, Sr. whom she married December, 1977 in Calvert County, MD, and who preceded her in death on November 1, 2002. Mary is survived by her children from her first marriage to the late William Fenton Howes Sr. who passed away in 1980, Patricia Ann McKinley (John) of Hyattsville, MD, William F. Howes, Jr. (Brenda) of Williamsburg, VA, 5 grandchildren; Katie McKinley Norris (Rob), Jay McKinley (Rachel), William F. Howes III (Danielle), Crystal Howes Hoover (Doug) and Jacqueline Howes; 8 great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Siblings; Margaret Butler (Morris) of Lusby, MD, and Albert “Al” Regeon of Laurel MD. She was preceded in death by her brother James C. Regeon of Jacksonville; FL. Mary graduated from Notre Dame Academy in 1950. She worked as a work-order processor for C & P / Verizon for 12 years retiring in 1991.

Designate specifically for Alzheimer’s disease research. Mary spent her childhood in Cottage City MD attending St. James Elementary and the Academy of Notre Dame, Washington DC Class of 1950. She married William Fenton Howes, August 15, 1952. After the birth of their first child was born they moved in 1957 to Bellemeade (St. Mary’s Catholic Church) where she resided until her marriage to Richard Pilkerton in 1977. She then settled on a farm in Chaptico, Maryland (Our Lady of the Wayside) until the death of her husband in 2002. In the early years on the farm she learned to can vegetables, make jellies, etc. and even won ribbons at the county fair. She had also volunteered to help with the annual fall dinner sponsored by her parish. Over the years she enjoyed duckpin bowling, dancing, listening to her old 78 rpm records, playing the slots in Harrington DE, among a few other activities. She enjoyed watching the Redskins and baseball both the Senators Orioles and the Nationals. With Richard, she attended card parties regularly for many years. She was an auxiliary member of the American Legion in Avenue, MD, as well as a member of the Moose Lodge, Mechanicsville. Mary and Richard loved to travel and made their way cross-country, Branson, MO several times, cruises, and just going for scenic drives. They attended the annual retired Metropolitan Police Department reunions in Florida. Additionally, she loved playing Bingo with her sister Margaret at the American Legion in Lusby, MD for more than ten years and had many, many friends there. Mary was also a frequent patron at the Bob Evans in California where she made many friends. She was a resident of the retirement community in Wildwood, California MD since 2004.
