Mary Agnes Walker
May 1, 1919 ~ December 19, 2025
Mrs. Mary Agnes Campbell Griffin Walker, age 106, of Lexington Park, MD, passed away on December 19, 2025, in Callaway, MD. One of three children, she was born on May 1, 1919, to the late Mr. Hazel and Mrs. Janie Campbell, in Ford Town, MD.
She attended and completed her high school education at Jarvisville High School and was later employed by St. Mary’s College of Maryland. She was also employed at Patuxent River Naval Air Base for many years, where she lived before it became the Naval Air Station.
After serving faithfully for a few years at Saint Nicholas Church, she later joined Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, where she was also a faithful member and loved singing in the church choir. She did altar work and baked goods for special occasions for the church. Her favorite saying was, “your body is your temple, be good to it and it will be good to you.”
Mary was a loving wife and mother of nine children. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roosevelt R. Walker, three daughters, Cecelia, Ann, and Carolyn and two sons Nathaniel, and John (Bubbie). She was affectionately called “Addie” by all who knew and loved her. While very active in her community, she cooked and delivered food to the sick and shut- ins; transported family and friends to and from doctor appointments, while also taking time to assist anyone in any other way possible and never gave a second thought about it. She also loved sewing and was a great seamstress.
Our beloved mother will be greatly missed and leaves to cherish her precious memories: Son, Leroy Campbell of Lexington Park, MD (Nellie- daughter-in-law of Boston, MA) ; Daughters: Ethel Griffin Ellis of Dorchester, MA; Gwendolyn Walker-Russell of Atlanta, GA; Patricia Walker Butler Chaplin of Lexington Park, MD; and Ilene Walker Womack (Sherman, son-in-law) of Peabody, MA; a generation of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
God saw the road was getting rough,
The hills too high to climb,
So, He gently closed her weary eyes
And whispered, “Peace Be Thine.”
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 6, 2025, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM, in Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Lexington Park, MD, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be John Fernandez, Nathaniel Campbell, Leslie Walker, Randy Butler, Keon Chaplin, and Rashawn Griffin.
