Mary Joyce Green
July 19, 1937 ~ January 26, 2026
Joyce Green, of Mechanicsville, Maryland, passed away on January 26, 2026 leaving behind a legacy of love, family, and togetherness that will be cherished always.
Born on July 19, 1937, to Thelma and Raymond Tennyson in Clements, Maryland, Joyce was welcomed into what became a large and loving family of nine children. Growing up in such a close-knit household helped shape her deep appreciation for family, connection, and shared time, which were values she carried with her throughout her life.
Joyce is survived by her daughter, Mary Jo Sargent, and her husband, Bob Sargent; her son, Dave Welch, and his family; her grandchildren Michael Casper, Jackie Mehl, and Casey Quade; and her great-grandchildren Jaylyn Boyd, Tyler Mehl, and Kylee Quade.
Joyce found joy in the simple pleasures that brought people together. She loved playing cards and dominoes, especially when those games turned into moments of laughter, storytelling, and friendly competition. These gatherings were never just about winning or losing they were about togetherness, memories, and the comfort of family.
She also had a deep love for traveling, embracing new places and experiences. Joyce was delighted to share stories from her journeys with those she loved. Whether traveling near or far, she treasured the connections she made and the memories she brought home, adding to the full life she lived.
Family and friends were truly the center of Joyce’s life. She cherished time spent with her loved ones, whether during special occasions or quiet everyday moments. Her presence brought warmth and familiarity, and she had a gentle way of making everyone feel welcome, valued, and loved.
Joyce will be remembered for her kindness, her steady spirit, and the love she so freely gave. Someone who showed care through her actions and her time. Her life touched many and her passing leaves a space that cannot be filled, but her love will continue to live on.
Though Joyce is no longer with us, the memories she created will remain forever in the hearts of her family and friends. Her spirit will be felt whenever loved ones gather, shuffle a deck of cards, set up a domino game, share travel stories, or simply spend time together just as she loved to do.
Joyce Green will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, in Our Lady of The Wayside Catholic Church, Chaptico, MD, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM with Father Chip Luckett officiating. Interment will be private.

I first met “Nan” in 2009 when I began dating her granddaughter. Now 17 years later, married and two amazing kids, I couldn’t be more proud that she welcomed me into this family with open arms. We are all grateful for knowing Nan and I can especially see in my kids her upbringing through my wife. We could always count on Nan for a laugh or a smile and she was always willing to impart her wisdom on you anytime you needed. She was the rock of this family and will forever be missed but she will surely be watching over us especially during a domino game or our many family cookouts.
