A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 13, 2005 at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of the Wayside Catholic Church with Rev. John P. Stack officiating. Interment will follow in Queen of Peace Cemetery.
Visitation:
Public Viewing will be held on Wednesday, January 12, 2005 from 4 - 8 PM in the funeral home with prayers being said at 7 PM.
Mary Loretta Mattingly, 83, of Chaptico, MD died January 8, 2005 in Washington, D.C. Born June 25, 1921 in Chaptico, MD she was the daughter of the late Edith Gertrude Burroughs Gough and William Edelen Gough, Sr. She was the loving wife of Charles Jenkins Mattingly, Jr. whom she married in Chaptico, MD on June 27, 1942. She is survived by her sons, Charles J. "Jenks" Mattingly of Hollywood, MD; Joseph G. "Mussie" Mattingly and William M. "Bill" Mattingly both of Chaptico, MD; James E. "Ed" Mattingly and Stephen D. Mattingly both of Mechanicsville, MD; Robert B. "Bobby" Mattingly of Welcome, MD; and, her daughters, Mary L. "Lori" Jantzen of California, MD and Mary Anne McKinney of Leonardtown, MD; and, 26 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, E. Gertrude Kokoszka of Rockville, MD and her brother, Edelen Gough, Jr. of Chaptico, MD. She was preceded in death by her brother, James J. Gough. Mrs. Mattingly was a life-long St. Mary's County resident and a graduate of Margaret Brent High School, Class of 1939. She was employed by the U. S. Postal Service as Postmaster in Chaptico, MD until her retirement in 1992 after 30 years of service. She served as Grand Regent of the Catholic Daughters, Court Father Andrew White and was a member of the National Association of Postmasters, St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary and the National Association of Retired Citizens. Prayers will be said at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, January 12, 2005 in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Interment will follow in Queen of Peace Cemetery in Helen, MD. Pallbearers for Mrs. Mattingly will be her sons, Charles J. "Jenks" Mattingly, Joseph G. "Mussie" Mattingly, William M. "Bill" Mattingly, James E. "Ed" Mattingly, Stephen D. Mattingly and Robert B. "Bobby" Mattingly. Honorary pallbearers will be her two daughters, Mary L. "Lori" Jantzen and Mary Anne McKinney.
