  7. Thank you, Fr. John, for performing my daughter’s marriage ceremony, for giving me the anointing of the sick and confession before my surgery, and for concelebrating at my husband’s funeral. You are loved and will be greatly missed!

  8. Father, you blessed me and my family in so, so many ways. Your kindness to others and non-judgmental personality was a healing balm to those who sought your care. May the angels light your path into heaven and may you rest in the love and peace of your family and friends there and the presence of our Almighty God. I will miss you Father John. My condolences to your many friends and family who shared with you your life’s journey and loved you. I hope Heaven is full of beautiful flowers and all those things you loved the most.

  9. I can’t call you FatherJohn. You have been just John to me for all these years. I’ve known you since you were 7 years old. We went to elementary school together rode the same bus to high school. We used to hang out at Aunt Lou’s house with Sally and the rest of the kids on Dunlap Street. As teenagers we really had good times together. You baptize my youngest child Patrick. The good Lord knew what was best for you he took your pain away and you are in a very happy place no more pain John you’re with your mom and dad your sister my husband Paul and my parents Aunt Lou your Uncle Jim all the good people that we had on Dunlap Street. Rest in peace John you will be missed and let Perpetual light shine upon you.

  10. Words cannot express how much we will miss our dear friend, confessor and soul healer. In the words of the old gospel song – “Free at last, Free at last, great God almighty, you are free at last.” Please enjoy the heavenly choir.

  11. The Schmeiser Family says:

Thank you Father for the many thousands of ways you showed us Christ’s love in your children’s sermons at FAW, your visits to the classrooms and how you comforted the sad, sick and lonely. We always felt encouraged by your unconditional love and mercy. Prayers will be said for God’s welcome of you.

  12. Fr John was the most caring, loving, individual
I have ever known. I have known him for over
35 years; his counseling at Father Andrew White
School for my 4 sons was amazing. He was wonderful
and giving always; anyway he could minister to
anyone, was always a way of life to him. I am
very sad that he has left us, but I know he is
in Heaven with our Lord and Savior, and, also
at peace. God Bless Him! I will never forget
all the kindnesses he did for me, my late
    husbands, and my entire family.

  13. My deepest and, most sincere, sympathy to all who loved Father John. I sure did. He was incredibly kind to both me and my family at a time when we all needed some kindness. God love him.

  14. You will be remembered for your many kindnesses to me and my children and the fun times working with you at St. Aloysius. God bless!

  20. Fr. John, I feel certain that you were welcomed by God our Father with the words – Well done my good and faithful servant! I have so many memories of you – on the altar, in the classroom, and in our friendship – which began almost 50 years ago! Most special though are the birthdays that we shared each year on January 16th! I will always remember these times with love! Thanks for representing Christ so well and for inspiring me in my journey toward knowing, loving, and serving God! Enjoy heaven and be ready to welcome me when the time comes! Rest In Peace, my dear friend! ❤❤

  21. Dolores & John Lynch says:

Father John, we will always cherish the years of friendship and service you gave to our family and community. All the lunches and dinners we enjoyed with you over laugher, the many prayers you said for all those we loved, and for your ever constant willingness to be there always for everyone, we are forever grateful. You married our children, baptised our grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and celebrated so many special occasions with us.
I am especially fond of remembering all the small children I taught over the years in CCD and how the children loved hearing your footsteps climbing the church steps over the sanctuary. The stories you shared of your own childhood made God so real to them! A priceless sampling of our Lord’s graciousness and love of his children you modelled so well.
No matter who you encountered Father John, whether it was the young or old, you made each one feel special. I know you helped turned many hearts back to our Heaveny Father. May you rest in His Heavenly presence and those of His saints and your dear friends and family. We love and miss you, Father.

  22. You will always have a special place in our hearts..You have made so many friends, were ever you were..You always had open arms for all of your parish members…HE WAS A SWEET AND AWESOME MAN…RIP FATHER JOHN..

  23. There are so many good things I could say about Father Mattingly, but it would take me a long time. He was such an amazing Father and was the only priest that told me the truth about my ex-husband. I respected him so much and was sorry that I didn’t get to see him much anymore. I loved him and trusted him the upmost. We will all miss you so much. May you rest in peace in the Lord’s arms.

  24. The Rt. Rev. William McClean, Jr. says:

    My Good Friend,
May you rest in peace and rise in glory!

  25. Joannie Johnson Norris says:

    Father John,
I just want to thank you so much for all the laughs, fun, and such beautiful memories from the years at Father Andrew White and St. Aloysius. It was such a joy to reconnect with you in 2014. I wish you peace, love and eternal rest. Please know I love you and will truly treasure all of the wonderful memories with you with which I was blessed. Oh, and the house you blessed back in 1977 is still standing. Ha Ha! Love you sweet man.

  26. I met Father John at the veterinary hospital where I worked. He was a devoted pet parent to his kitties. As I came to know him he transformed what I thought I knew about priests. He was also so warm, caring and approachable. He also had a fun sense of humor and told me many stories that I will always remember. I loved him dearly and he will be sorely missed. God’s peace to you Father. I will never forget you.

  27. Father was a wonderful priest. His charism for unity brought the Catholic faith to many people on their own particular faith journey. He was a gifted confessor and community leader.
