Rose Lee Thompson, “Rose Lee”, 99, of Avenue, MD, passed away on December 28, 2023 at her home. Born on June 13, 1924 in Cobrum Wharf, MD, she was the daughter of the late Rose Milburn (Farrell) and the late Bruce Johnson Quade. Rose Lee was the loving wife of the late Louis Marshall Thompson, whom she married on July 26, 1942 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Bushwood, MD, and who preceded her in death on August 4, 2008. She is survived by her children, Margaret Taylor (George -Deceased) of Saint Michaels, MD, Buddy Thompson (Debbie) of Avenue, MD, Benny Thompson Deceased (Mary) of Mechanicsville, MD, Donnie Thompson (Debbie) of Mechanicsville, MD, and Rose Mary George (John) of Avenue, MD, 18 grandchildren, 57 great grandchildren, 29 great-great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild due in April. In addition to her husband and parents, Rose Lee was preceded in death by her brothers Charles Truman Quade, Louis Benjamin Quade, Johnson Bruce Quade, and James Leonard Quade, two grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Rose Lee was a lifelong resident of Avenue, MD in St. Mary’s County. Her passion was working with her flowers and gardening. Rose Lee enjoyed helping out her friends in their time of need, and volunteered at Holy Angels Sacred Heart School making homemade biscuits for the students; she worked all church dinners up until she was 94 years old, and also helped her husband at Holy Angels and Knights of Columbus Bingos. She enjoyed spending time with family and cooking all of their favorite foods. Rose Lee loved to play cards and bingo, go to lunch with friends, and watch Youtube with her great grandchildren, as well as make memories with her bestie, Kate. The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 11, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM with prayers recited at 7:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 12, 2024 at 11:00 AM in Holy Angels Catholic Church, Avenue, MD with Rev. Kevin Fields officiating. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Bushwood, MD. Serving as pallbearers will be Johnny George, Jereme George, Tina Fay Gale, Donnie Thompson, Donnie Thompson, Jr., and Tony Hodges. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Contributions may be made to the 7th District Vol. Rescue Squad and Holy Angels Catholic Church. Arrangements provided by the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home and Cremation Services, P.A., Leonardtown, MD.
