Samuel Raymond "Ray" Trimbath, Jr.

Samuel Raymond Trimbath, Jr., affectionately known as “Ray,” 84, of Mechanicsville, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2026, at Hospice House in Callaway, Maryland, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on March 8, 1942, in Masontown, Pennsylvania, Ray married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Nettie Sullenberger. Together they built a life centered on family, raising seven children. Life was not always easy, but their home was always filled with laughter, love, and the comfort of facing every challenge together. As a young man, Ray began his career with PEPCO, where he worked until his retirement. He believed in the value of hard work and took great pride in providing for his family. Through years of dedication, he built a life defined by responsibility, integrity, and quiet strength. When he was younger, Ray was the kind of man who wasn’t afraid of much. He always enjoyed working out and took pride in staying fit. As he got older, his rough edges softened, revealing the caring, patient, and loving man his family knew so well. His strength never faded, it simply became matched by an even bigger heart. Ray was the foundation his family could always rely on. Whether someone needed advice, a helping hand, or simply someone to listen, Dad was the first person everyone called. He was always there with his time, his strength, and his support, a problem-solver, protector, and source of wisdom for everyone who knew him.

One of Ray’s greatest gifts was his sense of humor. He could find something to laugh about in almost any situation, bringing light to difficult days and joy to everyday moments. His quick wit and warm smile were among the many ways he showed his love. An avid reader, Ray had a lifelong passion for history and current events. He also loved science fiction and classic Westerns, enjoying stories of adventure, courage, and perseverance. Whether reading a good book, watching an old movie, or cheering on his favorite football team, he found happiness in these simple pleasures. Nothing made Ray prouder than his family. He rarely missed a chance to cheer from the sidelines, faithfully attending his children’s sporting events and later those of his grandchildren. Whether it was a game, a school event, or another milestone, he was there with quiet pride and steadfast encouragement. Ray’s greatest legacy is the family he loved and the example he set through hard work, generosity, humor, and devotion. He taught his children that family comes first, that helping others is simply what you do, and that even during life’s hardest moments, there is always room for laughter.

Ray was preceded in death by his beloved father, Samuel Raymond Trimbath, Sr.; his mother, Margaret Trimbath (McKenzie); and his sister, Mary Margaret Stetina. Their love and example helped shape the man he became, and the values they instilled in him remained evident throughout his life as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

He will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know and love him, especially his beloved wife, Nettie, and his seven children: Raymond Trimbath, Thomas Trimbath, Patricia Trimbath, Theresa Trimbath and her husband, Dean Wiesert; Sonya Trimbath; Toni Villella and her husband, Jim; and Gerry Long and her husband, Ricky. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. To us, he was simply Dad and Pap-Pap, a steady hand, a familiar laugh, and the heart of our family. We will carry his love, his lessons, and his example with us always.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made in Ray’s memory to Hospice House of Callaway, Maryland and Lewy Body Dementia Association.

The family will receive friends on Friday, August 7, 2026, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM. Funeral service will take place at 10:30 AM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD with Dec. Berry Krofchack officiating. Interment to follow in Charles Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Leonardtown, MD.
