Sharon Diane Murray, 75, of Lexington Park, MD, formerly of Cumberland, MD, passed peacefully on October 15, 2024, at Georgetown University Hospital, Washington, D.C. Born on July 11, 1949, in Salisbury, PA, she was the daughter of the late Donald Herring and June Radley Spain. Sharon was the loving wife of the late Oscar Wayne Murray, whom she married July 16, 1983, in Cumberland, MD. Sharon graduated from Allegany High School in 1967. She spent most of her career at St. Mary’s College of Maryland, retiring in June 2011. Since retirement, she has lived life to its fullest with her family and friends, traveling, and giving back to others. In her spare time, she loved to sew, knit, and craft. She also loved a good romance novel or two. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the light of her life. Sharon was the beloved mother of Katherine Mortenson (Lorin) of Lusby, MD, Kelly Stewart (Robert) of Ben Wheeler, TX, Kristy Williams of Longmont, CO, and Sherry Hobbs (Denver) of Valley Lee, MD. She was the sister of Sandra Lotz (Kenny) of Hagerstown, MD, Donna Bowles (Ricky) of Frederick, MD, Barry Herring of Boonesboro, MD, and Scott Herring of Frederick, MD. She is survived by eight grandchildren, Zachery, Sarah, and Clayton Mortenson of Lusby, MD, Jack Dison (Taylor) of Flint, TX, Tyler Dison (Hayley) of Grapevine, TX, Caroline Hinds (Kyle) of Longmont, CO, Katlyn Hall (Kenny) of Mechanicsville, MD, and Adam Hobbs of Baltimore, MD. Sharon is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren, Jackson, Joshua, Jordan, Jase, Kynlee, Cannon, Kason, Jensen, Carter Brinleigh, Haiden, Everly, and Brett. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, from 9:30 AM to10:30 AM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD, where a funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD. Serving as pallbearers will be Jack Dison, Tyler Dison, Zachary Mortenson, Clayton Mortenson, Adam Hobbs, and Kenny Hall. Honorary pallbearers will be Denver Hobbs, Robert Stewart, and Lorin Mortenson. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to fight childhood cancer to the American Cancer Society, P.O.
