Sharon Elaine Pilkerton, 58, of Callaway, MD passed away on April 5, 2017 in Washington, DC. Born on January 12, 1959 in Leonardtown, MD, she was the daughter of the late Francis Claudia Bell Pilkerton and Franklin Delino Pilkerton. Sharon is survived by her husband Mark Thomas of Callaway, MD. Children: Heather Schumacher (Jack) Schumacher of Leonardtown, MD, William Hewitt, III (Richard) of Quantico, VA, and two grandchildren: Hunter Schumacher and Colton Schumacher. Siblings: Anna Mae Dean (Danny) of Drayden, MD, Wayne Pilkerton of Callaway, MD. She was preceded in death by her son Christopher Hewitt. She was a lifelong St. Mary’s County, MD resident, and graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 1977. The family will receive on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 from 5:00-8:00 PM with prayers recited at 7:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home Leonardtown, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 AT 10:00 AM in Holy Face Catholic Church with Father Jerry Gamrot officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Jack Schumacher, Luke Lang, Daniel Dean, III. James Jordan, Wayne Pilkerton, and Chuck Charles. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

    No more suffering and no more pain.
    Sharon you where a wonderful person with the kindest heart. You had a great sense of humor with a contagious laugh, you could light up any room. You never ran out of words to say. I was so lucky to have so many wonderful memories and good times together.
    I will always cherish my Boyds Bears and Longaberger baskets that you gave to me which are still in “our” office. My heart is breaking but I know you are in a much better place. I will never forget you my friend. LOVE YOU, Sherrie

    I was deeply saddened to learn that one of my dearest friends had passed away. I will always remember the wonderful times we shared as co-workers at the credit union. All of these memories and the many, many friends you made through the years only make us realize more what a truly wonderful person you are and always will be.
