Thomas Eugene Curtis

Thomas Eugene Curtis departed this life on June 30, 2026, at the age of 67, at Chesapeake Shores in Lexington Park, Maryland.

Thomas, also known as “Hop” to his childhood friends, was born on October 11, 1958, in Leonardtown, Maryland, to the late George Curtis Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Curtis. He was one of ten children.

Thomas loved playing cards, going to the racetrack, and playing the lottery. He was loved by everyone and enjoyed giving everyone a piece of change. He loved spending time with his cousin, Joseph Butler (Boo), and his Best Friends, Charles Barnes and Gary Biscoe. He also enjoyed gatherings at family and friends’ houses.

One of the greatest joys of Thomas’s life was the extraordinary bond he shared with his beloved Nnephew, Leroy Young. Their relationship was built on unconditional love, laughter, and unwavering support. The memories they created together will forever be treasured, and the love they shared will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew them.

Thomas was a dedicated employee of the Department of Defense Naval Recreation Center in Solomons Island, Maryland, where he served as a Maintenance Supervisor. After 20 years in which he retired of faithful service

Thomas proudly served in the United States National Guard as a Combat Engineer. He enlisted in February 1977 and faithfully served until his retirement in June 1987, achieving the rank of Sergeant.

He leaves to cherish his memory two Brothers, George Curtis Jr. and Joseph Curtis Sr.; five Sisters, Mary Fluellen, Margie Buie, Agnes Brooks, Ann Moore, and Linda Green. He also leaves a bonus Daughter and two bonus Grandchildren, whom he adored, and a Goddaughter Alethea Biscoe, along with a host of Nieces, Nephews, relatives, and friends.

Thomas was preceded in death by his Parents, Mary Elizabeth Curtis and George Paul Curtis Sr.; his Brother, James Edward Young; his Sister, Mary Catherine Fenwick; 3 Brothers-in-Laws, Milton Fluellen, Tony Buie, and James Fenwick; and his Godmother, Vera Goldring Feely, who held a special place in his heart.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD. Where a Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM in the Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Charles Memorial Gardens, Leonardtown, MD.
