William Battaglia Horn 83, died August 21, 2004 at home in Hollywood, MD. Mr. Horn moved to Maryland five years ago from Fremont, CA. He previously lived in Suffolk County, NY, where he was born March 5, 1921 in Patchogue, Long Island. Mr. Horn attended Patchogue High School, Foothill College and Stanford University both in Palo Alto, CA. An aerospace engineer, he worked most of his career for Lockheed, retiring in 1982. He served with the Army as a light machine gunner in World War II. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Badge, Infantry Combat Badge and African, Europe and Middle East Service Medals. Mr. Horn is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jennie Horn, of Hollywood, Maryland; a son, William Battaglia, of Hollywood; a daughter, Maureen Battaglia, of Novato, CA, and a sister, Arlene Fouringault, of Rochester, NY. He was predeceased by a son, Dennis Battaglia and a brother, Victor Battaglia. He also is survived by 10 grandchildren, including Maria Perrygo and Nicole Wolf of Hollywood, MD; 11 great-grandchildren, including Vincent and Lukas Battaglia, of Hollywood, MD and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive guests at 6 PM tonight, Wednesday, August 25, 2004 in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, where a memorial service will be conducted at 7 PM with the Rev. Kipper Horton of the Leonardtown Church of the Nazarene officiating. A memorial service will be conducted in California at a future date.
