Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at 10:00 AM in St. John’s Catholic Church Hollywood, MD with Father Ray Schmidt officiating. Interment will follow in Charles Memorial Gardens Leonardtown, MD. Visitation: The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM with prayers recited at 7:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home Leonardtown, MD. William “Willie” Benedict Stone, 78, of Hollywood, MD, died unexpectedly November 28, 2013 at his residence. Born October 30, 1935 in Leonardtown, MD, he was the son of the late John David Stone and Lucille Goldsborough Stone. He was the loving husband of Leona “Lonie” Virginia Stone whom he married on December 12, 1959 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Hollywood, MD. Willie is survived by his children; Sherry James (Gil) of Mechanicsville, MD, Billy Stone of Hollywood, MD, Brenda Woodburn (Danny) of Mechanicsville, MD, Karen Stone of Hollywood, MD, and Jerry Stone of Hollywood, MD. Grandchildren; Natalie Wood of Mechanicsville, MD, Tiffany Alvey of Lexington Park, MD, Leah Woodburn of Mechanicsville, MD, Jerry “JJ” Stone Jr. of Hollywood, MD, and Parker Stone of Hollywood, MD. Willie is also survived by his sister, Madge Hutchinson of Lexington, KY. Willie is preceded in death by his brothers Phillip Stone of Hollywood, MD, Xavier Stone of Hollywood, MD, Peter Stone of Hollywood, MD, John “Buck” Stone of Hollywood, MD, John David Stone of Hollywood, MD, and sisters Leila Thompson of Hollywood, MD, Cecelia Farrell of Hollywood, MD, Nellie Norton of Miami, FL, Hannah Miedzinski of Hollywood, MD and Agnes Guy of Hollywood, MD. Willie attended Great Mills High School and was a lifelong resident of St. Mary’s County, MD. He was the owner of William B. Stone Masonry; he retired after 33 years in 2009. Willie was a talented mason who built his own brick house from the ground up. In his younger years, he was an avid baseball player. Willie spent most of his time entertaining family and friends in his garage. He always enjoyed playing cards, hosting oyster scalds and crab feasts, telling stories, watching football, baseball and NASCAR. He loved to cook; he made the best chili, vegetable beef soup, steamed crabs, country sausage, and scrapple. There was always a gathering of people in his garage, especially when he was making his well-known country sausage. His favorite hobby was trot-lining for blue crabs on his boat with family and friends. Of all the things he enjoyed, he loved spending time with his grandchildren the most. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 from 5:00PM to 8:00PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, P.A., Leonardtown, MD with prayers recited at 7:00PM.
